RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Carter Morgan finished atop the leaderboard with a 13-under par to lead the Old Dominion men’s golf team to a first-place finish at the VCU Invitational, hosted by Virginia Commonwealth at the Country Club of Virginia’s Tuckahoe Creek Course on Tuesday afternoon.

As a team, the Monarchs shot an 11-under in the final round to storm up the leaderboard to the top spot. Going into the final round, ODU was sitting in fifth place, six strokes behind leader Virginia Tech. By the end of the round, the Monarchs had surpassed the second-place Hokies, beating them by one stroke.

ODU’s victory marked the first time the team has won a event since the 2016-2017 season, when it came away with a first-place finish at the Patriot Intercollegiate.

Morgan shot an even-72 on the 6,927-yard course in the opening round, but then followed that with an 8-under 64 in the second round, the lowest score by a golfer in the entire tournament and the lowest score he posted in a single round in his time with ODU.
