Wayne Parks was an outstanding two-sport star in both baseball and basketball atOld Dominion. He lettered for four years in both sports, and helped lead the baseballteam to the 1963 and 1964 NCAA East Regional Championship.
Parks led the Monarchs in hitting as a freshman in 1961 with a .375 average. In1963, he hit .330 and led the team in runs scored with 28. Parks hit .333 in 1964 and wasnamed to the first team All-Mason Dixon Conference at third base in both 1963 and 1964.
During his four years, Parks helped the Monarchs compile a 78-17 record. OldDominion captured three Little Eight Championships and two Mason Dixon titles duringthat time.
In basketball, Parks was the Monarchs playmaker and top defensive player. Heaveraged 6.4 points in 1962 and 7.5 points per game in 1963. He scored a career high22 points against Lynchburg and Western Maryland as a senior and averaged 13.1 pointsper game. He shot 77.7 from the free throw line in 1962.
Parks, a native of Norfolk, Va., graduated from Old Dominion in 1964 with a degreein physical education.
