Tony Zontini starred for the Monarchs from 1964-1968, in baseball, track andfield and basketball. Zontini, a native of Norfolk, Va. was the starting third basemanfor three years. As a junior he hit .392 and as a senior he hit .352. Zontini set orshared school records by hitting two triples in one game and until 1985 two homerunsin one game.

In baseball, Zontini was named All-Mason-Dixon Conference for three consecutive years and led Old Dominion to two conference titles in 1967 and 1968. After graduation, Zontinisigned with Kansas city and hit .305 for their Kingsport minor league club.

Besides lettering for Sonny Allen in basketball during the 1965-66 and 1966-67seasons, Zontini was an outstanding track performer, in indoors and outdoors. In indoortrack, he won Mason-Dixon Conference Championships in high hurdles and low hurdles.He set the state collegiate indoor low hurdles record in the 1964-65 season.

In outdoor competition, Zontini, also a graduate and former coach at NorfolkCatholic High was second in the state in the hurdles in 1968. He won the Mason-DixonConference high and intermediate championships for two straight years and competed in theNCAA Regionals in those two events as well. Tony received the Alumni Association'sAthlete of the Year award and the Norfolk Sports Club tom Scott Award as Old Dominion'stop senior athlete in 1968.
