Old Dominion University''s first Division I All-American in golf. Jon Hurst took sixthin the NCAA Regionals at Yale in 1991 and earned All-American honors at the NCAA NationalChampionships, at Monterey, CA.

As a senior, the Dumfries, Va., native won five collegiate tournaments and posted twoseconds, and one third in 12 regular season matches. He compiled a 72.5 stroke average in1990-91 and was named the 1991 Virginia Collegiate Golfer of the Year. Hurst was also thetop ranked golfer in NCAA District III and was selected to play in the East-West CollegiateAll-Star match in 1991. That season, Hurst helped Old Dominion place tenth or higher in all12 events.

In the summer of 1990, he won the prestigious Eastern Amateur in Portsmouth, Va.,by ten strokes, with rounds of 68-64-67-69. Hurst compiled the team''s best stroke average in 1989 at 74.6 and in 1990 at 73.7. He was a three-time team Most Valuable Player in 1989, 1990 and 1991.

In the NCAA Championships, Hurst shot a four-day total of 301 to finish 18 strokesbehind medalist Warren Schute of UNLV. In the NCAA Regionals at Yale, Hurst shot rounds of70, 78 and then a 65 to finish just six trokes behind medalist Chan Reeves of Georgia Tech.

In 1989, Hurst captured the Sun Belt Conference championship. He fired rounds of75-74 and 71 for a four-over-par total of 220 and helped the Monarchs take second in theleague''s team championship. Hurst placed second in the 1990 and 1991.

In the Virginia Intercollegiate state championships, Hurst took third in 1989 and 1990and seventh in 1991. As a team, the Monarchs placed second in 1990 and 1991. Hurst graduated in 1993 with a B.S. degree in sports management. He served as team co-captain in 1990 and in1991.
