An all-state basketball forward and an all-tournament field hockey player, Jean Whitehurst has made substantial contributions to the university and its athletic program since graduating with a BS degree in Medical Technology in 1956.
Whitehurst received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1980 after serving on the Alumni Association board of directors for 20 years. An eight-year member of the Old Dominion University Intercollegiate Foundation board, she chaired the Donna Doyle committee for five years that has raised more than $100,000 for women's sports scholarships.
Whitehurst coached girls' softball for 15 years, organized and coached high school women's basketball teams, and organized an annual girls' all-star softball game.
