Old Dominion University's first 1,000-point scorer, Harry Knickerbocker was the school's top player from 1952-57.
Playing for ODU Hall of Fame Coach Bud Metheney, Knickerbocker was the co-captain for the then Norfolk Division of William and Mary team in 1955, 1956 and 1957.
During his career he scored in double figures 69 times. His career high 27 points in 1957 came against Roanoke. He had 26 points in 1954 against Apprentice and Towson State.
In 1957 Knickerbocker led the Braves in scoring with an 18.5 points per game average, that was the second best in the Little Eight Conference to Emory and Henry's Bill Bennett who averaged 22.1. The Norfolk Division took third in the league and Knickerbocker earned All-Little Eight honors for the second straight season.
Besides lettering in basketball, Knickerbocker lettered in baseball in 1953 playing in the outfield for Bud Metheney. He completed his basketball career as the school's first 1,000-point scorer with 1,286. He currently ranked 17th on Old Dominion's All-Time scoring list in 1992.
During his five seasons, Knickerbocker averaged 12.2 points in 105 games. He graduated in 1957 with a degree in business administration.
Knickerbocker passed away in December of 2016 at the age of 82.
