Bobby Hoffman served as the Monarchs co-captain for three years from 1960-62. Heplayed with Old Dominion Hall of Famers Leo Anthony and Marion Carroll, and played for Hall of Fame coach Bud Metheny. In four seasons, from 1958 to 1962, the team compiled a 61-21 record.

A native of Portsmouth, Va., Hoffman hit 23 straight free throws which remained the school record until 1979. On Feb. 19, 1962 in Salem, Va., Hoffman scored a career high 46 points against Roanoke College which was the most points by an individual that season. His 46 points remain the fifth highest in school history.

Hoffman completed his career with 1,047 career points in 82 games played for a 12.7 point per game average. He earned Little Eight All-Conference honors both as a sophomore and a junior, was a second team All-State selection in 1959, first team All-State in 1962 and honorable mention in 1960 and 1961.

Hoffman helped lead the Monarchs to a 16-4 record in 1961 and 17-3 mark in 1962. The 1962 season record was the best overall record of any college team in the State of Virginia, for that season. In all, the program compiled a 60-21 record during his four years. Hoffman graduated with a degree in physical education.
