Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (2-0-1) played Liberty (1-2-1) to a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of action at Osborne Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs outshot the Lady Flames 22-10; ODU also held a 7-2 advantage for corners on the day. 

Liberty took an early 1-0 advantage in the 9th minute off a Gabrielle Farrell goal. Three minutes later, Old Dominion’s Amanda Nhek finished a rebounded Talia Tapper shot, to tie the match at one apiece. Nhek now has eight points for the season (3 goals, 2 assists).

The Monarchs outshot Liberty 4-2 in the opening 45 minutes, as well as held a 2-0 advantage for corner kicks.

The second half was controlled by ODU, who outshot the Lady Flames 10-3 in the second half. Old Dominion also took five of six corners in the second half, but the score remained nodded at 1-1.

For the two overtime sessions, the Monarchs held an 8-5 shot advantage. ODU’s Morgan Hall nearly ended the match with less than a minute remaining in the second overtime, only to see her shot nail the post.

Old Dominion will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m. ET, when the Monarchs welcome Longwood to the ODU Soccer Complex. Thursday’s match will be streamed live in HD on C-USA TV.
