CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Jana Melichova, Sana Tufail and Abigail Portyrata were named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Monday afternoon. The criteria to the All-America Scholar Team is a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Melichova, who was named VaSID Rookie of the Year and Conference USA Freshman of the Year closed out the year with a 72.9 stroke average. The freshman owns a 3.62 GPA through two semesters. She posted her best career finish in her first-ever collegiate tournament with a 2nd place finish, which included a 66 in the second round. Her 66 in the Golfweek Program Challenge was a school record for lowest 18-hole score. The Czech Republic native broke 70 five times and posted 12 rounds of par or better. She also finished the season ranked 205th according to Golfstat.
Finishing her career with a 3.80 GPA, Tufail also earned a spot on the C-USA All-Academic team and C-USA Third Team All-Conference in 2019. Her 73.7 stroke average was tied for second-best on the team. Tufail posted four top-20 finishes and recorded 10 rounds of par or better. She graduated with a degree in Speech Pathology.
Portyrata closed out her career with a 73.7 stroke average. In 2019 she recorded six rounds of par or better and competed in every event for ODU. The Virginia native graduated with a 3.78 GPA.
