NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University men’s basketball head coach Jeff Jones and former football defensive end Oshane Ximines will be honored by the Norfolk Sports Club at their 74th annual Jamboree on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Downtown Norfolk Marriott Hotel.

Jones will receive the President’s Award, which acknowledges the efforts and results of his team this past season. Ximines will receive the Leigh Williams Memorial Award given to Virginia’s Outstanding Collegiate Athlete in 2018-19.

The Basketball Monarchs are coming off a 26-9 (13-5 C-USA) season, in which they won the Conference USA regular season and tournament, earning the program’s first bid to the NCAA Tournament since 2011. In the past five seasons, Jones has put together a 122-49 overall record, which marks the 20th most wins in Division I during that period and most within the C-USA. In conference play over the past five seasons, Jones’ Monarchs are 65-25, which ranks first in the league. Coach Jones was named the Conference USA Coach of the Year in 2018-19.

Ximines became ODU’s first player ever taken in the NFL Draft when he was selected in the third round, 95th overall by the New York Giants. A native of Ahoskie, North Carolina, Ximines finished his ODU career holding school records in career sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles. He holds the three highest single-season totals of sacks in school history, including 12 in 2018 which put him fifth in the county.

Along with Isaiah Harper, Ximines is the only ODU player to have twice been named first-team All-Conference USA. Ximines was the first Monarch to be invited to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, later joined by Travis Fulgham, and was the first ODU player to participate in the STATE FARM All-Star Challenge.

Stephen Ballard, the President/CEO of S.B. Ballard Construction Company, will receive the Tom Fergusson Memorial Award that represents the Metropolitan Person of the Year in Sports. The ODU football stadium, which Ballard’s company tore down and built in nine months, is named after Ballard.
