NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Carter Morgan of the Old Dominion men's golf team qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship after posting a 36-hole score of 136 (70-66) on Tuesday, July 9 at James River Country Club in Newport News conducted by the The Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA). The U.S. Amateur Championship will be held at the historic Pinehurst Country Club on August 12-18 where 312 amateurs will compete for the Havemeyer Trophy. 

“I’m excited to play in the U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst," explained Morgan. "It’s an honor to compete in such a prestigious event and course."

The VSGA qualifier consisted of back-to-back 18 hole rounds, where only two spots were allocated at the site of 71 players. The number of qualifiers’ places at each location is determined by the USGA based on size and strength of field. 7,191 players entered in the country-wide qualifiers.
