NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women's golfer Jana Melichova has been named Rookie of the Year in the Virginia All-State University Division Women's Golf Awards, as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Melichova and Charlotte De Corte earned first-team All-State honors, while Sana Tufail was named to the second team all-state.
Melichova, also named Conference USA Freshman of the Year closed out the year with a 72.9 stroke average. Marked her best career finish in her first-ever collegiate tournament with a 2nd place finish, which included a 66 in the second round. Her 66 in the Golfweek Program Challenge was a school record for lowest 18-hole score. The Czech Republic native broke 70 five times and posted 12 rounds of par or better. She also finished the season ranked 205th according to Golfstat.
Also earning a spot on the All-State First Team, De Corte matched Melichova's stroke average in her final campaign. She picked up two top-5 finishes and five top-10 finishes. After her senior season, she ranked 167th in the country according to Golfstat and 125th in the Golfstat Cup Rankings. The Belgium native finished in 3rd at the 2019 C-USA Championship in April. De Corte was also a member of the C-USA First Team All-Conference.
Rounding out the Monarchs all-state honors, Sana Tufail was placed on the second team. Her 73.7 stroke average was tied for second-best on the team. Tufail was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team and the C-USA Third Team All-Conference this season. Her best finish was at the Golfweek Program Challenge with a 5th place finish. Tufail posted four top-20 finishes and recorded 10 rounds of par or better.
ODU and UVA both placed three on the All-State squads.
