NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Murray Rudisill and the Old Dominion men's golf program announced the signing of Alex Zurat on Thursday.

Zurat, out of McQuaid Jesuit High School in Victor, New York, will join the Monarchs as a freshman for the 2019-20 season.

"It will be great to have another golfer from the Rochester, New York, area. Alex is a good friend of current freshman, Michael Minnehan, and came for a visit and committed before leaving campus," said Rudisill. "He has a lot of good tournament experience and seems to be getting better and better with each season and event."

Zurat has registered several impressive finishes during his youth career. He won both the U.S. Challenge Cup Granite State Junior Classic and the New York State Junior PGA Championship. Zurat also had top-five finishes at the IJGT Faldo Series in Georgia and at the Innisbrook Copperhead Christmas Junior Classic.

"It is difficult to come south from New York state and compete with the junior golfers from the south but Alex was able to do that during his senior year at McQuaid Jesuit High School," said Rudisill.

At McQuaid Jesuit, Zurat was teammates with Minnehan.

Zurat is the third signee for the upcoming season, joining Rasmus Konradsson and Filip Wetterqvist
