COLUMBIA, S.C. – In the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, the No. 40 nationally ranked Old Dominion women’s tennis team (19-5) fell to No. 21 nationally ranked Virginia (18-8) by a 4-2 score on Friday morning at the Carolina Tennis Center, which is on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
Virginia secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Yulia Starodubtseva got ODU on the board with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
The Cavaliers came back with victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, before Oleksandra Andrieieva won 6-4,7-5 at No. 3 singles to pick up ODU’s second win of the day.
Camille Favero clinched the match for Virginia with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
Friday marked ODU’s second ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first for the program since 2001.

Old Dominion head coach Dominic Manilla led the Monarchs to a 19-5 record this season, while compiling a perfect 11-0 mark at home.
At one point this season, Manilla’s Monarchs were nationally ranked No. 19, the highest mark in program history.
