BILOXI, Miss. -- In a game that began three hours later than its originally scheduled time and then ended at 1:45 a.m. CT, Old Dominion fell to Western Kentucky, 7-4, in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament on Wednesday evening at MGM Park in Biloxi.

Old Dominion (35-20) now plays UTSA on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. ET in an elimination game.

The Monarchs, playing WKU (26-27) for the fourth consecutive game, were unable to overcome a rough fourth inning, in which the Hilltoppers erupted for six runs.

Trailing 7-1 entering the sixth inning, ODU slowly trimmed the WKU lead with two in the sixth and one in the seventh. However, this time, there was no 9th-inning magic for the Monarchs, who overcame a five-run deficit in the final inning last weekend in the series finale in Bowling Green. ODU won 2-of-3 in that series.

Tonight, Vinnie Pasquantino led ODU offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. The home run, a solo shot in the first, was his team-leading 16th of the year.

Tommy Bell went 3-for-4 with a run and Bryce Windham had an RBI double.

The late start was caused by the fact that two of the first three games of the day went to extra innings. ODU's game did not start until 10:25 p.m. CT.
