LEXINGTON, Va. -- Will Morgan went 5-for-5 with a home run and eight RBIs and Old Dominion routed VMI, 17-8, for its fifth straight win on Tuesday evening at Gray-Minor Stadium in Lexington.

The 17 runs were a new season high for Old Dominion (33-18). It was the Monarchs' first at VMI (15-38), head coach Chris Finwood's alma mater, since 2015.

Morgan hit a three-run, opposite-field home run, his eighth of the year, in the fourth inning to give ODU a 7-2 cushion. The Monarchs then broke open the game with an eight-run sixth.

Morgan's eight RBIs were the most by a Monarch since Chris Buss had nine in 2010. The ODU record is 10 by Matt Quatraro in 1994.

The Monarchs have now won five straight and end the regular season with an 11-2 record in midweek games.

Joining Morgan with multi-hit performances were Bryce Windham, Andy Garriola, Vinnie Pasquantino and Matt Schwarz.

Connor Muly earned the win on the mound with 2.2 innings of shutout relief.

Up next, ODU heads to Western Kentucky for the final weekend series of the regular season. The Monarchs need at least one win or an FIU or Middle Tennessee loss to clinch a berth for the Conference USA Tournament in Biloxi.
