NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football head coach Bobby Wilder has named linebacker Lawrence Garner and offensive lineman Isaac Weaver team captains for the 2019 season.
“Isaac and Lawrence have done a tremendous job their first two years playing D1 football. The coaches and players recognize their playing and leadership ability,” Wilder said. “They take great pride in preparing themselves and their teammates on the field, meeting room, and weight room. We look forward to their leadership of the 2019 team.”
Garner led ODU in tackles last season with 100 and led Conference USA in tackles per game with 11.1. He led ODU in tackles in eight of the nine games he played, including a season-best 16 against FIU.
Weaver is a two-year starter at left tackle and has started every game the last two seasons. He earned Conference USA All-Freshman Honors and was named honorable mention in 2016.
The Monarchs open the 2019 season against Norfolk State on Saturday, Aug. 31.
