Hutchinson Earns League Leading Third C-USA Athlete of the Week Award of Season

NORFOLK, Va. – Holly Hutchinson (Middlesex, England) of the Old Dominion women’s tennis team was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week, as announced by league officials on Wednesday afternoon. The award is Hutchinson third of the season, which leads the C-USA. Hutchinson is the only female player within the conference to win this award in back-to-back weeks so far this season. 

Last week, Hutchinson upset the No. 39 ranked singles player in the country, when she took down Virginia’s Meghan Kelley (2-6, 6-4, 1-0). In doubles, Hutchinson and teammate Brooke Pilkington were in a 4-4 deadlock with the No. 70 nationally ranked tandem before the match was called off. Hutchinson entered the ITA rankings this week at No. 90. Hutchinson and is 10-4 in No. 1 singles and 10-5 in No. 1 doubles, helping lead ODU to a 15-3 start and No. 32 national team ranking.

ODU leads all Conference USA schools with five weekly honors so far this season, while Rice has three. Marshall, Southern Miss, FIU and FAU all have one award, respectively.
