NORFOLK, Va. -- For the first time this season, Old Dominion lost a midweek game. The Monarchs fell to Virginia, 4-2, on Tuesday evening at Disharoon Park in Charlottesville.

Old Dominion (16-12) is now 7-1 in midweek games and 5-2 against Power-5 schools.

Virginia (17-12) scored three runs in the first inning and that proved to be enough offense for the Cavaliers on a cold, breezy night.

ODU had seven hits on the evening, one less than UVA, including two from Matt Schwarz and RBI singles from Bryce Windham and Vinnie Pasquantino.

On the mound, the ODU bullpen combined to throw six innings of one-run ball, in relief of Hunter Gregory, who received the loss with three runs allowed in two innings.

Up next, ODU heads to UAB for a Conference USA series this weekend in Birmingham.
