FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Old Dominion women's golf team fired a 282 (-6) at the Verandah Club in the opening round of the C-USA Championship to sit atop the leaderboard with UTSA. Senior Sana Tufail is also tied for the lead individually after posting a (-3) 69 on Monday afternoon.
Posting their best 18-hole score since the Moon Golf Invitational, three Monarchs posted below par scores in Tufail, Charlotte De Corte and Leah Onosato. Tufail opened her round with eight straight pars before earning a birdie on the ninth to make the turn one-under. On the back nine, the Abu Dhabi native posted one bogey, one birdie and an eagle to close the opening round as one of the clubhouse leaders. Tufail was one of four golfers in 60 player field to post an eagle on the day.
On the 6,194 yard track, De Corte and Onosato both posted a two-under 70. Onosato led the field in par 4 scoring, posting all three of her biridies on those holes. De Corte also recorded three birdies. The two are tied for fourth and posted the second best scores of the day. Freshman Jana Melichova and senior Abigail Portyrata each recorded a one-over 73. They are both tied for 21st in the field of 60.
Tomorrow the Monarchs will once again be paired with UTSA and Charlotte beginning at 8:50 a.m. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.
