SAN ANTONIO -- A Michael Marrale RBI single in the 10th inning proved to be the difference-maker in a wild 14-13 Old Dominion win over UTSA on Saturday evening at Roadrunner Field to even the weekend series and set up a Sunday rubber match.
Old Dominion (20-14, 4-10) and UTSA (15-20, 6-8) went to 10 innings for the second straight night and, for the Monarchs, it was their fourth extra-inning game in the last six.
ODU never trailed in the ballgame, scoring six runs in the first two innings en route to building a 10-4 lead through seven. The Monarchs carried a 13-8 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the Roadrunners rallied for five to send the game to extras.
True freshmen Ryan Teschko and Marrale then delivered for ODU in the 10th. Teschko doubled with one out and Marrale drove him in with a 2-out RBI single.
Trey Fisher then came on to close the door in the bottom half for his second save of the season.
Marrale finished the night 3-for-6 with two runs and an RBI. Andy Garriola had two hits and four RBIs and Matt Burch went 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs.
The time of the game was four hours and 40 minutes.
The series finale is slated for tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. ET.
