NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team improved to 2-0 for the spring after downing Hampton by a 5-0 score. ODU had its Soccer Sisters program join them for the walkout before the game.
The first goal came in the 33rd minute, when Allie Brimmer intercepted a free kick, played it forward to Amanda Nhek who flicked it behind her to Kyra Ricks. Ricks dribbled past her defender and ripped a shot from the top of the box over the keeper’s hands and in the net giving ODU a 1-0 lead.
ODU’s second goal came in the 60th minute, when Blair Vilov received a pass from Reagan Tate, who turned her defender and attacked into the box. Tate laid the ball off for Ricks who turned and played it to Brimmer. Brimmer’s shot was too powerful for the keeper to hold onto and Vilov pounced on it, turning from an acute angle and driving it into the roof of the net, giving the Monarchs a 2-0 ODU.
The third goal came in the 62nd minute, when Ricks won the goal kick and volleyed it to Vilov. Vilov battled two defenders for it, got beyond them and laced it with her left foot off the far post and in, giving Old Dominion a 3-0 advantage.
The fourth goal came in the 75th minute, when Josie Sauro picked off a pass and played it into Ricks. Ricks laid it off for Morgan Hall, who one-touched it through defenders back to Sauro, who was running up-field. Sauro crossed it into the box but the cross took a deflection and Ricks was there to pounce and put it away, giving ODU a massive 4-0 lead.
Finally, the fifth goal came in the 80th minute, when Emma Terefenko blocked a pass and countered across half field, combining with Nhek. Terefenko gave it to Nhek a second time and then it was played across to Gaby Bentley. Bentley squared it to Brimmer, who shook loose of her defender and scored on a low shot across the goalkeeper, ultimately giving the Monarchs a 5-0 victory over Hampton.
