VILLANOVA, Pa. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team had its season come to a heart-breaking end on Friday night, as the Monarchs fell to Villanova, 86-81, in overtime in the opening round of the WNIT at Finneran Pavilion.

Old Dominion (21-11), trailing 50-48 after three, opened the fourth quarter on a 15-4 run and led by as many as nine with five minutes remaining.

However, Villanova (19-12) rallied to make it a one-possession game late and hit a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime. The Wildcats then outscored ODU, 17-12, in OT.

Victoria Morris led four Monarchs in double figures with 21 points. Taylor Edwards added 16 points and four assists, while Ajah Wayne and Amari Young each finished with 15 points.

ODU shot 44 percent from the field. Villanova shot 42 percent and 41 percent from deep. The Wildcats hit 15 three-pointers.

Head coach Nikki McCray-Penson and the Monarchs ended the season with 21 wins, a 13-win improvement over last year's 8-23 mark. The turnaround is the second-largest in program history and the third-best in the NCAA this season.
