NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion (3-8) lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals in the second half to defeat Longwood (2-6), 11-9. Senior Sophia Richie, who netted four goals, led the Monarchs on Sunday afternoon.
ODU opened the match with back-to-back goals from Richie and one from Lauren Irvine. The Lancers answered three minutes later.
Glory Johnson netted her first of the afternoon before Longwood got off to a three-goal run to take the 4-3 lead heading into halftime.
Richie opened the second half with a free position goal to even the match. She was 2-2 during the afternoon on free position shots.
Longwood answered with two-straight goals to regain the lead. Claire Porter netted one three minutes later to close in on the Lancer lead.
The Lancers collected three more goals before ODU went on their 5-0 run late in the second half.
MK Maloney scored a goal with four minutes left to take the advantage. New York native Johnson collected a hat trick on Sunday. The junior has scored nine goals during the Monarchs wins over ECU (Fri.) and Longwood.
Defensively, Maloney and Alyssa Sebesto both caused three turnovers on Longwood. Anna Davis picked up three groundballs along with Maloney. Senior Katie Miller earned four draw controls.
