MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Old Dominion women’s tennis team moved to 6-1 on the season after downing Conference USA member Middle Tennessee (1-6) by a 6-1 score on Friday.
“I’m really happy with the way we came out fired up,” said ODU head coach Dominic Manilla. “Our doubles was good today. All through the lineups in singles, I think we were tested at different points and I think we responded the right way.”
Old Dominion will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 11:00 a.m. ET, when the Monarchs get a stab at No. 24 nationally ranked Tennessee in Knoxville.
No. 24 Tennessee enters Sunday’s match with a 3-1 mark after defeating North Alabama twice by 7-0 scores, as well as No. 20 nationally ranked Florida State by a 4-3 score. The Volunteers sole loss came at the hands of No. 18 LSU by a 4-1 score. In doubles, Kaitlin Staines and Sadie Hammond are nationally ranked No. 17.
“Tennessee is the best team in the state and I think they are much improved from last season, but our team has also improved from last year,” concluded Manilla.
Last season, the Volunteers [RV] narrowly defeated the Monarchs by a 4-3 score in Norfolk, Va.
