NORFOLK, Va. - The women's lacrosse (1-4) team won their first game of the season with a victory over Winthrop (0-5) on Saturday afternoon by a 11-10 final score. ODU was led offensively by Glory Johnson with five goals and two assists.

Johnson opened the game with a goal for the Monarchs. Lauren Irvine followed off a free position shot. The Monarchs were up 2-0 before the Eagles tallied their first goal of the game with 25 minutes left to play in the first. 

Sophia Richie and Irvine notched two more goals to put the Monarchs up 5-2 heading into halftime. 

Winthrop scored three unanswered goals to open the second half of play to tie up the game 5-5. 

With just over 27 minutes left to play in the second, Johnson notched her second of the game to regain the lead. Three more from Johnson led the way for ODU. Katie Miller and Richie also scored second-half goals. 

ODU outshot the Eagles, 29-20. The Monarchs also grabbed 14 draw controls to Winthrop's nine. Miller and Richie earned five draws each. 

Defensively, Haleigh Wurzel collected six saves and earned her first win of the season. Kerri Caruso grabbed four groundballs and made one caused turnover. Alyssa Sebesto made three caused turnovers and two groundballs. Off the bench, Megan Donohue collected two groundballs and caused two turnovers on the Eagles.
