NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion University Athletics has partnered with Kroger Mid-Atlantic and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore to fight hunger for the women’s home game vs. Charlotte this Saturday, Feb. 23, at 4 p.m. ET and the last men’s “bonus play” home game vs. Southern Miss on Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. ET.

“The amount of people that go to bed hungry every night in our community alone is deplorable," said head coach Nikki McCray-Penson. "We have enough food and resources in this country to make a difference in the lives of these people. Being able to use the platform that I have to attempt to eliminate hunger in maybe just one household makes a huge difference. However, one person is not enough. We must band together as a community to make a more significant and permanent change. We are capable of altering this statistic, it’s within our grasp."

Fans are encouraged to bring two eligible non-perishable items to either of the game dates at the box office or main entrance off Hampton Boulevard to receive a special ticket promotion.

PROMOTIONS:
Women’s Basketball (Feb. 23, 4 p.m. ET): Receive one free single-game ticket to the Longwood home game at The Ted on March 4
Men’s Basketball (March 6, 7 p.m. ET): Receive $3.00 off a single-game ticket against Southern Miss
*No refunds will be issued for any previously purchased tickets

View the attached "Foodbank Shopping List" PDF for a complete listing of items needed. As a reminder to fans: non-perishable food, non-breakable containers, and nutritional labels must be intact.

For those that are unable to make the game this Saturday, can visit this link to donate monetarily.

ABOUT KROGER
Kroger’s Zero Hunger, Zero Waste mission is clear: to end hunger in our communities and eliminate waste in the company by 2025. We know that meals matter – families who share meals together have children who do better in every aspect of their lives. We also know more than 40% of the food produced in the U.S. is uneaten, yet 1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger. Food waste undermines food security. We can help.

ABOUT THE FOODBANK
For over 35 years, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore has provided over 261 million meals to those in our community who face hunger. Through our programs, facilities, and large network of community partners, we “eliminate hunger” on a daily basis for many. However, we understand that our current work addresses hunger for individuals in the short term. It does not address the root causes which force individuals to return to a food pantry again and again. This understanding has led to the creation of a new 3-year strategic plan aimed to move Hampton Roads closer to achieving the mission of eliminating hunger for those we serve – not only for the day, or for the week, but for a lifetime.
