NORFOLK, Va. – Holly Hutchinson (Middlesex, England) of the Old Dominion women's tennis team (8-1) was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by league officials.
Hutchinson went 2-0 in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Monarchs against Maryland, pacing ODU to a 4-0 win over the Terps. The junior dominated the No. 1 singles position, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. In her doubles match, she earned a decisive 6-2 victory, as well. Hutchinson and Old Dominion have now won five matches in a row and are receiving votes in the latest ITA poll.
Hutchinson and the Monarchs will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 22 at 4:00 p.m., when ODU gets a stab at No. 16 nationally ranked LSU in Baton Rouge. Then on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m., Old Dominion will welcome Penn to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Admission for all is free.
