CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team was unable to overcome a 14-point halftime deficit at Charlotte on Saturday afternoon, falling to the 49ers, 69-59, at Halton Arena.

Old Dominion (17-8, 8-5) fell behind 36-22 at the half, after Charlotte (14-11, 6-7) outscored ODU, 21-3, in the second quarter.

The Monarchs battled back to trim the lead to as little as three at 44-41 with just under three minutes to play in the third quarter, but the 49ers responded, outscoring ODU, 20-17, in the fourth to secure the win.

"We can't have a 2nd quarter like we did, that's unacceptable. We have to be sharper. With a young team, we have to keep working and we have to get sharper." - Coach McCray

Amari Young led ODU with 17 points, tying her career high, to go along with six rebounds. Maggie Robinson also finished in double figures with 12 points, while Taylor Edwards had nine points and six assists.

The Monarchs had 13 assists to 11 turnovers, including just four in the second half, but Charlotte held a 40-29 advantage on the glass and a 32-24 edge in points in the paint.

It marked just the fourth time this season ODU had been outscored in the paint.

ODU and Charlotte meet again next Saturday at the Ted Constant Center at 4 p.m. ET. The Monarchs are 9-2 at home this season.
