NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion (0-3) lacrosse team fell to American (1-1) on Saturday in their home opener by a 11-7 final score. Sophia Richie and Lilly Siskind both scored two goals.
The Eagles opened up scoring in the first minute of action. ODU answered three minutes later with a Siskind goal to tie up the game. American then went 3-0 in the next seven minutes to take a 4-1 lead. Before first period time expired, Lauren Irvine closed in on the American lead with a goal.
In the second half, scoring picked up with five Monarch goals. Glory Johnson, MK Maloney, Richie and Siskind tallied second half goals but the Eagles seven goals in the second 30 minutes of play made the difference at L.R. Hill. Alyssa Sebesto, Johnson and Irvine also collected assists for ODU.
Defensively, Kerri Caruso collected three caused turnovers and three groundballs, while Katie Miller had four caused turnovers in the Saturday afternoon effort. Sebesto and Maloney both secured three groundballs each. In goal, Haleigh Wurzel made 12 saves.
Despite the loss, ODU had 30 shots, while the Eagles took 29.
