NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women’s tennis team (8-1) defeated Maryland (1-4) by a 4-0 score at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. All six Monarchs won their first set in singles and ODU had the lead in the second set of all three matches that went unfinished due to the Clinch Rule.
The Monarchs have now won five-straight matches and are one of five teams receiving votes in the latest ITA Top 25 Poll.
Friday afternoon marked the fourth victory over Power 5 schools for ODU this season.
Holly Hutchinson/Brooke Pilkington and Yulia Starodubtseva/Oleksanda Andrieieva claimed the doubles point on Courts No. 1 and 2, giving ODU an early 1-0 advantage.
In singles, Holly Hutchinson (6-1, 6-0), Brooke Pilkington (6-0, 6-1) and Alesya Yakubovich (6-0, 6-4) all won in straight sets, lifting Old Dominion to a 4-0 victory over the Terps on Friday in Norfolk.
Old Dominion will return to action on Friday, Feb. 22, when the Monarchs travel to Baton Rouge, La. for a 4:00 p.m. ET start at No. 16 nationally ranked LSU.
