BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team fell to Western Kentucky, 75-60, on the road on Saturday afternoon at E.A. Diddle Arena.
ODU (9-5, 0-2) trailed by just five, 36-31, at the half and briefly led 22-21 early in the second quarter following a 10-0 run, but Western Kentucky (8-8, 2-0) broke the game open in the third quarter. The Lady Toppers opened the second half on a 17-6 run and outscored ODU, 21-11, in the third. WKU then led by double figures for the remainder of the contest.
Amari Young led the Monarchs with a career-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Ajah Wayne recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
"On the road, for whatever reason, we're not taking care of the basketball, and we need to do a better job of that. That's not typical of us. We need certain people on our team to play well and Taylor [Edwards] is a player that has to be on the floor for us." -Coach McCray
Starting point guard Taylor Edwards played just five minutes due to foul trouble and the Monarchs committed 18 turnovers.
It is the first time this season that the Monarchs have lost consecutive games.
ODU has never defeated WKU as C-USA opponents (0-9).
Up next, Old Dominion returns home to host Florida Atlantic and FIU next weekend at The Ted.
