NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team (2-0) defeated South Carolina State (0-2) by a 5-2 score on Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
“I was glad to see our response in doubles today,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “We came out with more energy and executed better. I was very proud of our January newcomers Nicola and Federico in closing out the doubles point. They had match point on serve at 5:4, but got broken and didn’t allow that to throw them off. They broke back right away and served it out at 6:5.”
“In singles, we had another focused performance on many courts,” Mueller continued. “On others, we weren’t able to find a Plan B today. We will get back Tuesday to work on our base some more, because we have a tough weekend is ahead of us.”
Old Dominion will return to action on Friday, Jan. 25, when the Monarchs travel to Winston-Salem to take on Memphis at 2:00 p.m. ET as part of the ITA National Kick-Off weekend.
