HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team overcame a 6-point deficit with under five minutes remaining to defeat Southern Miss, 53-50, on the road on Saturday afternoon at Reed Green Coliseum.
Old Dominion (13-5, 4-2) has now won four straight, the longest winning streak of head coach Nikki McCray-Penson's tenure.
In a game that ODU trailed by as many as nine and led for only two minutes, the Monarchs' Dejah Carter and Taylor Edwards delivered clutch performances in the final minutes to send ODU to the thrilling comeback victory.
With the game tied 49-49 and the shot clock winding down, Edwards hit a layup with 12 seconds remaining despite contact for what proved to be the game-winning basket.
After Southern Miss (9-10, 1-5 C-USA) made it a one-point game at 51-50, Carter made a pair of clutch free throws to make it 53-50 and then contested USM's potential game-tying three on the other end.

ODU outscored the Lady Eagles, 21-14, in the final quarter.
Carter finished with a team-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds and two blocks. Edwards had nine points and seven assists.
Up next, ODU returns home to host UTEP and UTSA next weekend. Thursday's game against UTEP will be the annual Education Day game at 11 a.m. ET.
