NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (5-3) will host William & Mary (2-6) on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff. The game will stream on ESPN+ and air on the ODU Sports Radio Network, with Ted Alexander and Dave Twardzik’s pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night mark will mark the 90th meeting between the two schools, as the Monarchs and Tribe have met for 46 straight seasons. ODU will look to extend its winning streak to four on Wednesday night.
Old Dominion’s defense ranks 5th in the country for scoring defense, allowing just 55.5 points per game. The Monarchs also rank 7th in the nation for holding teams to 35.8% shooting from the floor for the season. ODU turns the ball over just 10.4 times per contest, which ranks 19th in the NCAA.
Earlier this week, redshirt senior captain, B.J. Stith, was named the Conference USA Player of the Week. Last week, Stith led ODU to two key victories over instate and old conference rivals, VCU and JMU, while averaging 24.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 0.5 assists and 0.5 blocks per game.
The Monarchs have been led by their two senior captains so far this season, as Ahmad Caver is averaging 19.1 points, 4.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game. Stith is going for 16.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per outing.
The Tribe enters Wednesday’s contest with a 2-6 record. William & Mary is led by Justin Pierce (19.0 ppg & 10.8 rpg) and Nathan Knight (18.3 ppg & 6.5 rpg).
Head coach Tony Shaver is in the midst of his 16th season at the helm in Williamsburg.
Old Dominion leads the all-time series, 67-22; however, W&M has won six of the last seven meetings, as well as the last three clashes.
