PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (1-0) will take on Saint Joseph’s (0-0) on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. EST at Hagan Arena. Friday’s game will air on ESPN+.
The Monarchs are coming off a 67-44 victory over Navy in the regular season opener last week. Ahmad Caver poured in a game-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. B.J. Stith followed with 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Also in double-figures for ODU was Xavier Green, who finished with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
For the game, ODU held Navy to 25.0% (14-56) shooting from the floor and 23.8% (5-21) from three-point range. For the contest, the Monarchs held advantages for points off turnovers (12-0), points in the paint (23-14), fast break points (11-2) and blocks (8-1).

Old Dominion is 3-8 all-time against the Hawks, with the last meeting coming in the Hall of Fame Classic in 2015, in a game Saint Joe’s won 66-64.

Saint Joseph’s was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10’s 2018-19 men’s basketball preseason poll, while Charlie Brown, Jr., and Lamarr Kimble were named to the Preseason All-Conference Third Team.
Saint Joseph’s finished at 16-16 last year, and 10-8 in the A-10, while reaching the conference semifinals.
Phil Martelli is in the midst of his 24th season at the helm in Philadelphia. Martelli is the Hawks' all-time leader in career victories with a mark of 430-309. Setting the school record for wins in a season (30) in 2004, Martelli has guided SJU to 20 or more victories nine times in his 23 seasons, which is the most for any Hawks' coach. His record of 212-164 in Atlantic 10 play is the most conference wins for any active coach and ranks second all-time in the league.
Martelli has 18 postseason wins (7 NCAA, 11 NIT), which are the most in school history. He has taken SJU to the postseason in four of the last seven years, and 13 times in 23 seasons at SJU, while winning three Atlantic 10 Championships (1997, 2014, 2016).
