CHARLESTON, S.C. -- A near triple-double from Taylor Edwards and a career day from Dejah Carter helped lead the Old Dominion women's basketball team over Jacksonville, 78-76, in overtime on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the Buccaneer Classic.

Carter, off of an assist from Edwards, had the game-winning basket for Old Dominion (4-1) with seven seconds remaining in overtime. ODU scored the game's final six points, after trailing 76-72 with three minutes remaining in OT.

Carter finished the game with a career-high 12 points and eight rebounds, while Edwards had a team-leading 16 points, a career-high 10 assists and eight rebounds.

The Monarchs are now 2-0 in overtime this season with both wins coming on the road.

"We executed better down the stretch. Tay [Edwards] made timely baskets and timely plays. She found Dejah to push us over the hump. That pass, we've been working on that." - Coach McCray

At halftime, ODU led 36-26, but Jacksonville (2-3) had a huge third quarter, outscoring the Monarchs, 26-14, to lead by two entering the fourth.

ODU was able to climb back in front in the final seconds of regulation, but the Dolphins' Johne Stewart hit a buzzer-beater three from just inside midcourt as time expired to tie the game 69-69 at the end of regulation.

However, ODU answered in overtime, outscoring the Dolphins, 9-7. All nine of ODU's points came off of turnovers in OT. For the game, the Monarchs forced 23 JU turnovers, while committing just 12, including zero in the second half and overtime.

Joining Carter and Edwards in double figures were Victoria Morris with 13 and Aziah Hudson with 12.

Up next, the Monarchs play Tennessee Tech, who defeated host Charleston Southern, tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN 94.1 radio.
