NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team defeated Christopher Newport, 77-42, in an exhibition game on Friday evening at the Ted Constant Center.
True freshman Ajah Wayne led ODU with 18 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals. Aziah Hudson added 11 points and Taylor Edwards had 10 points.
"We're young, we're fast," said head coach Nikki McCray-Penson. "We're pretty exciting to watch once we get into a rhythm."
The Monarchs outrebounded the Captains, 62-42, and forced 35 CNU turnovers.
"We played hard and we made some mistakes," said McCray. "But, we were in the plays when we made mistakes, which is very good. We're only going to continue to get better."
ODU heads to Campbell on Tuesday for the season opener. The Monarchs then host Norfolk State on Friday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m. ET for the home opener.
