NORFOLK, Va. – Women’s lacrosse head coach Heather Holt named seniors Katie Miller, Kerri Caruso, Alyssa Sebesto, and Sophia Richie captains for the 2019 season.

"I am really looking forward to working with our four captains of the 2019 ODU Women's Lacrosse Team. Kerri Caruso, Katie Miller, Sophie Richie, and Alyssa Sebesto are all strong leaders on the off the field, said Holt. "Our Captains represent attack, midfield, and defensive positions and their leadership will have a strong presence throughout the entire field and really resonate with the team. Chosen by the team and coaching staff, they all display the true grit and pride of our team this year. Under their leadership, and the leadership of our entire senior class, I know we will have a successful year!" 

Katie Miller a senior midfielder from Irondequoit, N.Y is set to begin her last season as a Monarch. In 2017, Miller started in 14 games before falling to a season ending injury. Before the injury, she led the team in draw controls (50), tallied 17 goals, three assists, 14 ground balls, and 14 caused turnovers. Miller has played a total of 52 games for the Monarchs. Miller will be wearing #22 this season as she completes her Monarch lacrosse tour. Academically Miller is an accounting major and will graduate in the spring of 2019.

Kerri Caruso is set to begin her fourth season as a Monarch playing in a total of 38 games thus far. A defensive senior from Pennsylvania, during her junior season, Caruso was co-captain of the 2018 team and named to the 2018 Preseason All-Conference Team. She started in each game she played while tallying 34 ground balls, six draw controls and 38 caused turnovers. Caruso was named to the ASUN Second Team All-Conference and ranked nationally in caused turnovers throughout the season. Caruso will be wearing #14 this season. Academically, she was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team for the second-straight season and will be graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. 

An instate midfielder, Sophia Richie is set to start her fourth season as a Monarch. Last season, Richie started in all 18 contests while leading the Monarchs in goals (35). She also tallied three assists, collected 20 ground balls, eight draw controls, and 16 caused turnovers. Richie has played in a total of 44 games and has racked up 68 points in her career. Richie will be wearing #9 this season. Academically, Richie will graduate with a degree in speech pathology and earning a number of academic awards including the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal.

Alyssa Sebesto along with Richie and Miller, Sebesto is also a senior midfielder. A native of New Jersey, Sebesto is set to begin her fourth and final season with the Monarchs. Sebesto has played in a total of 56 games while starting in 53. Sebesto also earned the role of co-captain last season. During her 2018 season, she started in each contest for the Monarchs while tallying 31 ground balls, 16 draw controls, and a career-high 25 caused turnovers. Sebesto will be wearing #7 this upcoming season. Academically, she will graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice and a number of academic accomplishments including the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal.
