NEW YORK -- Old Dominion back Rebecca Birch has been named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday.

The honor marks the second time Birch has earned a weekly honor this season. She was named the Offensive Player of the Week back on Sept. 17.

Birch recorded a goal and an assist in ODU's 3-0 win at Quinnipiac on Friday. The center back also helped the Monarchs record their fifth shutout of the season, heping hold the Bobcats without a shot or a penalty corner for the entirety of the contest.

The United Kingdom native now leads the team in points with 23 and goals with 10.

Birch is the fifth different Monarch to pick up a Big East weekly award this season, joining Erin Huffman (Offensive, Oct. 15) Merle Knobloch (Freshman, Sept. 10), Kristen Vick (Defensive, Sept. 3) and Ilse Westera (Freshman, Sept. 3).
