IRVING, Texas - Mertcan Akar was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. This is the goalkeeper's first honor of the season and fourth time in his career earning the weekly laurel.
This past week, Akar started both games in goal for the Monarchs in their road wins over Campbell and UAB. Akar collected four saves at Campbell and four at UAB to end the week with eight saves combined. He now has 33 saves this season and has not allowed a goal in the last 136 minutes in net.
