SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (7-6-3, 4-3-1 C-USA) completed its fifth straight shutout after defeating UTSA (5-9-1, 1-6-1 C-USA) by a 2-0 score on Thursday night at the Park West Athletics Complex. ODU has not surrendered a goal in its last 502 minutes of play. The Monarchs last loss came on Sept. 28th.

“I am really pleased with the performance and result,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “This is a difficult place to play and UTSA was really competitive throughout, so to come out on top was great tonight.”

Iris Achterhof scored her third goal of the season in the 36th minute to give ODU a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Natalie Johnson and Cristina Bashara were credited with an assist. Old Dominion held a 3-2 shot advantage after the opening 45 minutes.

In the 66th minute, Natalie Johnson blasted a header past UTSA’s keeper off an Talia Tapper corner kick to stretch the Monarchs lead to 2-0. The goal was Johnson’s second of the season, while the assist was Tapper's first in 2018.

“We scored two very good goals and were strong defensively and we are especially pleased that we went deep into our roster and as a team got the win,” Hind concluded. “I’m very proud of our team.”
