NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 21 Old Dominion field hockey team looks to remain unbeaten on the year with road games at Richmond and No. 8 Virginia this weekend.
Old Dominion (4-0), off to its best start since 2011, takes on Richmond on Friday at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and then plays at No. 8 Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on WatchESPN/ACCN Extra.
The Monarchs entered the national rankings this week at No. 21 after victories over No. 22 Wiliam & Mary and No. 17 James Madison last weekend. Overall, ODU has outscored its opponents, 10-3, and has posted three shutouts, which is tied for the most in the nation.
Individually, freshman Ilse Westera leads the team in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist, while Preseason All-Big East selection Erin Huffman has also tallied three goals, all of which were game-winners.
Merle Knobloch leads the team in assists with three, while Alexandria Brewer, Tori Harwood, Amie Olton and Kristen Vick have all scored goals.
ODU goalkeepers Lacey Frazier, Cam MacGillivray and Kealsie Robles, who will miss this weekend's games due to her recent call-up to the U.S. Senior National Team, have all posted shutouts. Frazier and MacGillivray will handle goalkeeping duties with Robles away.
All-time, the Monarchs are 33-0 against Richmond and 33-17 against Virginia.
ABOUT RICHMOND
The Spiders are 1-3 with the lone win being a 4-2 victory over Lafayette at home. The losses have come to American, Rutgers, and Bucknell. Elise Zwicklbauer and Jessica Hendry lead the team in scoring with two goals apiece.
ABOUT #8 VIRGINIA
Virginia enters the weekend with a 2-1 record, including wins over Drexel and Longwood and a close loss to No. 6 Penn State. Grace Wallis is UVA's leading scorer with seven points on three goals and one assist. Prior to Sunday's game, the Cavaliers host No. 10 Syracuse on Friday.
