NEW YORK -- Old Dominion field hockey forward Merle Knobloch has been named the Big East Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Knobloch helped lead ODU to wins over Richmond and No. 8 Virginia last weekend, scoring two goals, including the game-tying goal in the 64th minute against the Cavaliers. The goals were the first of her collegiate career.
The Germany native now has seven points on the season with two goals and three assists.
ODU has had the Big East Freshman of the Week in back-to-back weeks. Ilse Westera earned the honor last week.
In addition to Knobloch, junior back Rebecca Birch was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll. Birch scored the game-winning goal in both of ODU's wins.
