NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (1-0-1) men’s soccer team is set to host the ODU Soccer Classic this weekend as they face Santa Clara (1-1-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Temple (0-1-0) on Sunday at 6 p.m. On Tuesday, the Monarchs were ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll top 25.
This years participants include ODU, VCU, Santa Clara and Temple.
The Monarchs opened the season by defeating Radford, 1-0 and came to a 2-2 draw against Georgia Southern on Sunday. ODU senior Max Wilschrey leads the Monarchs in goals (3) after just two games.
About Santa Clara
The Broncos are coming off an overtime loss to C-USA opponent UAB. To open the season, Santa Clara shutout San Diego State, 2-0 at home.
The West Coast opponent will be playing their first away game of the season after a two-game home stand.
Santa Clara is returning eight players who played in at least 11 matches last season including three West Coast Conference All- Freshman selections in Javier Duran, Nate Shue and Terrell Smith.
About Temple
The Owls of Temple are continuing on their four-game road trip as they will see VCU on Friday before meeting the Monarchs in Norfolk on Sunday. Temple opened up their season with a fresh slate after the addition of 17 players and a completely new coaching staff.
The Owls saw UMBC in their season opener and fell to them by a 1-0 final score.
ODU Spirit Contest
Student organizations are encouraged to enter in the ODU Spirit Contest at the men’s soccer game on Friday at 7 p.m. The top two organizations presenting the most spirit will split the $500 pot. The organizations must sign up at the student entrance.

For the Monarchs matchup against Temple, the first 100 fans will receive a free ODU men’s soccer t-shirt.

With a $25 purchase of the 2018 Soccer Voucher book, fans receive 20 ticket vouchers that can be used in any combination to gain entry to any men's or women's regular season game at the ODU Soccer Complex.
The vouchers can be redeemed in any quantity and represent a 75% savings over purchasing general admission tickets at the gate. In addition to entry to the games, the first 200 fans that purchase their ticket voucher books will receive an ODU soccer scarf.
