NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s soccer team is set to kick off their season as they host Radford on Friday, August 24 at 7 p.m. and Georgia Southern on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Monarchs are coming off a stellar season, where they went 13-6-2, won the Conference USA Championship, and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Alan Dawson added eight to the 2018 squad and returned nine key players.
This season, the Monarchs were tabbed to finish third in the C-USA behind FIU and Charlotte. Goalkeeper Mertcan Akar and midfielder Niko Klosterhalfen were named to the C-USA preseason team. Akar was also named to the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
About Radford
Radford is opening their season on the road for the second straight season. The last three seasons the Highlanders have won their season opener. Radford was picked to finish second in the Big South conference, where they are coming off a 10-4-4 season. Last season they defeated No. 10 Virginia on the road.

The Monarchs are 5-0 against Radford dating back to 1985. ODU has routed the Highlanders by a 9-2 score throughout those five games.
About Georgia Southern
The Eagles will be visiting VCU on Friday before they see the Monarchs on Sunday. Georgia Southern is coming off a season where they finished with a 9-8-1 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt tournament. The Eagles were picked to finish third in the Sun Belt conference.
