NORFOLK, Va. --
The Old Dominion field hockey team travels to East Lansing, Michigan, for its first two games of the 2018 season this weekend. The Monarchs take on Michigan State on Friday at 1 p.m. ET and Kent State on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at Ralph Young Field.

This weekend's games will not be streamed. However, live stats will be available on MSUSpartans.com and fans can also follow @ODUFieldHockey on Twitter for live in-game updates.

Head coach Andrew Griffiths, in his sixth season at ODU, and the Monarchs return a bevy of experience from last season, including 15 letterwinners, headlined by Preseason All-Big East selections Erin Huffman and Rebecca Birch.

Huffman (12g, 1a in 2017) led the team in scoring last season, while Birch (3g, 3a) started all 18 games at back and tied for sixth on the team in points. Forward Alexa Ostoich (4g, 2a) also returns, giving ODU two of its top three scorers from a season ago.

The Monarchs are 31-12 all-time in season openers.

ODU is 4-2 all-time against Michigan State, including a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Spartans last year in Norfolk. Against KSU, the Monarchs are 2-0 all-time.

ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE
Head coach Helen Knull, in her eighth season at MSU, and the Spartans return 16 letterwinners and seven starters from last year's team, which finished 8-11 overall. Individually, senior Madison O'Neill, sophomore Cara Bonshak, and sophomore Lia Sinisi were each named to the 2018 Big Ten Field Hockey Preseason Players to Watch list.

ABOUT KENT STATE
The Golden Flashes went 9-10 last season and were picked to finished second in the MAC Preseason Poll. Head coach Kathleen Wiler, in her 13th season, returns All-MAC Second Team selections Clara Rodriguez Setó and Berta Jover Llorens, as well as last year's leading goal-scorer Laila Richter.
