NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Monarchs fell to Virginia Tech in their first exhibition, 3-2. Tom Wustenberg and Sebastien Hauret scored goals for the squad.
“They won a lot of 50/50 balls. We just didn’t have the edge about us that we need,” said head coach Alan Dawson.
The Hokies opened up scoring in the 13th minute. Wustenberg equalized the match just a minute later off a pass from Hauret.
The Hokies scored two more times in the first half to extend their lead to 3-1.
"I thought we had a much better second half. We won a lot of the balls, scored a penalty kick, and had chances to equalize. There is something positive to come out of it, but we have a lot of work to do."
Hauret tallied a penalty kick in the 71st minute.
The Monarchs travel to George Washington on Sunday at 2 p.m. in their last exhibition of preseason.
