NORFOLK, Va. –
The 2018 Old Dominion women’s soccer season commences on Friday, Aug. 17 against East Carolina at the ODU Soccer Complex at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, Aug. 19 at 6:00 p.m., the Monarchs will welcome Mount St. Mary’s. Both games will be streamed live on C-USA TV.

The 2017 season (9-5-4, 6-2-2 C-USA) went down as the best ever in Conference USA for the Monarchs and the program’s best overall season since 2008. Last year’s conference tournament marked the third straight appearance for Old Dominion (top eight of 14 teams qualify).

Head coach Angie Hind returns 18 players, while adding 11 newcomers to this season’s roster. ODU returns 77% of its points scored, 73% of its goals scored and 85% of its assists from last year.

When Old Dominion and East Carolina squared off last season, the match ended in a 0-0 double-overtime draw. The Pirates are now led by first year head coach Jason Hamilton. Hamilton’s roster entails 16 newcomers. Last season, ECU went 6-10-2 overall and 1-8-0 in the American Conference.

Mount St. Mary’s also hired a new coach in the offseason, as Tori Krause is one of the youngest head coaches in the country at 26 years old. She was an assistant coach at the Mount last season. The Mountaineers posted a 5-12-1 overall record and a 2-6-0 mark in the Northeast Conference last season. The Mountaineers roster features seven seniors, including Second Team All-Northeast Conference selection Jenna West, who led the Mount with five goals and five assists in 2017.

Sundays are “Dog Days” at all home matches this year for Old Dominion women’s soccer. The Sunday Dog Days promotion will allow fans to bring their dogs, on a leash, to any soccer match that takes place on a Sunday. There is no charge for bringing a dog.

During soccer games, dogs will be allowed on the grass area on the south and east sides of the ODU Soccer Complex. For field hockey, fans can utilize the grass area near the concession stand. In addition, ODU Athletics will set up bowls of water around each facility to make sure your pets stay hydrated during the sporting event.
