NORFOLK, Va. -- In an early preseason exhibition, the Old Dominion field hockey team dominated Davidson, 8-1, on Monday morning at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
"I'm pleased with it," said head coach Andrew Griffiths about his team's performance. "One of our goals for today was to play at a higher tempo, especially in transition. So, we definitely took a step with that, which was good."
The two squads played three 25-minute periods and then ended the scrimmage with a penalty shootout. For the game, the Monarchs outshot Davidson, 33-3.
"I think we did really well," said junior midfielder Alexandria Brewer. "We worked as a team. We have a new structure going on that is working really well for our team. More offensive and more attacking."
The Monarchs return to daily workouts for the rest of the week, before heading to Duke for another exhibition on Saturday. The 2018 regular season opener is set for Aug. 24 at Michigan State.
